Stunning Antique French Chiming Clock.

Made from Belgian “Marble”

These clocks are made from a grey slate that is quarried in Belgium, hence the name “Belgian Marble”. The pieces are cut for a clock case, then sent to the clockmakers in France in pieces. Where they were then stained and polished Black. Then assembled with the movement.

This type of clock was very popular in Victorian times, when after the Death of Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s husband, it became known that the Queen herself had a Black Clock. So people went out and got a similar clock.

As can be seen with this one it is in very good condition, with inset Green Marble and Marble Columns.

Gilded decoration to the front.

As far as I am aware completely original.

As can be seen from the movement it is a Gong strike, striking the half and the Hour.

The movement is by the Excellent makers Japy Freres and is in perfect working order.

Size: 14 x 11.5 x 5 inches

Now £350

Please be aware this clock is no lightweight.
