Stunning Antique French Timepiece.

Made from Belgian “Marble”

These clocks are made from a grey slate that is quarried in Belgium, hence the name “Belgian Marble”. The pieces are cut for a clock case, then sent to the clockmakers in France in pieces. Where they were then stained and polished Black. Then assembled with the movement.

This type of clock was very popular in Victorian times, when after the Death of Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s husband, it became known that the Queen herself had a Black Clock. So people went out and got a similar clock.

As can be seen with this one it is in good condition with just one or two nicks in the case and inset with Green Marble. The nicks in the case are not unusual in this type of clock, the material used is a soft one. To get one in perfect condition is an achievement in itself!

Gilded decoration to the front.

As far as I am aware it is completely original.

As can be seen from the movement it is a Tic Tac Movement and is in perfect working order.
